Crater Lake was born from the remains of Mount Mazama which was a super volcano thousands of years ago until it erupted leaving a 6 mile wide crater which eventually filled up with water to be what it is today.
If you ever find the opportunity to visit this awesome location for yourself you MUST do it, it was without a doubt the highlight of all the daytrips I put together during my 3 month stay in Oregon this year.
